Skill Building

If you want to make things happen in the world, knowledge and skills are essential.

The future belongs to those who combine knowledge and skills in creative ways to solve big problems.

According to Harvard Business Review, it takes six months or more to develop a new skill.

I’ve also heard it takes about 20 hours.

As in most cases, the answer isn’t black and white.

Take for example, Parkinson’s Law.

If you take 1 hour a day, for six months, that’s 180 you spent developing a skill.

But if you took 3 hours a day, for two months, that’s the same amount of time it takes, to gain the same level of competence.

Due to neuroplasticity, the more we learn, the more we can learn. So in the latter case, where you’re training for three hours a day. You’re ability to learn is actually increased. And in that same amount of time, you’re going to learn and develop faster than the person practicing for one hour a day.

“We have just seen that the brain grows by use and that the more you use it, the better it will function.” ~ Glen Doman Institute For The Advancement of Human Potential

With all this said, one of the best skills you could possibly learn, is the ability to learn new skills.

And the more you do, the more you can do.

It’s like an exponential growth curve.

It starts slow, but over time knowledge, skills, and awareness expands, exponentially.
