The Learning Process

I believe learning and education are the key to humanity’s future (along with the heart). Learning about the right solutions, how to implement them, and how to take control of our future. Because no one’s coming to save us.

The concept of Neuro-Plasticity implies that our brain is malleable and adaptable. That with new learning, training, and thinking it will adapt and re-shape itself to meet the incoming stimuli.

When we do this rewiring, learning, we’re becoming aware of the world around us. The learning is like a flashlight, that illuminates the world around us, and gives us a greater access to understanding of how everything works. The level of our awareness matches the degree to which we’ve learned about the world.

Hebb’s Law: Neurons That Fire Together, Wire Together.

This is how creativity occurs. When we learn about the world around us, and make connections between seemingly unrelated things we become creative, sourcing new thoughts about the world around us. If we’re going to create climate solutions, creativity and imagination are key. The solutions we’re looking for, while many exist, will take creative and imaginative problem solving to implement effectively.

Types of Learning:

Visual: Learning through pictures, diagrams, and illustrations.

Auditory: Learning through listening, lectures, and recordings.

Read/Write: Learning Reading & Writing the Material.

Kinesthetic: Learning Through Experience, Observation, Activity, and Experimentation.

We’re all a combination of the four, but each of us may lean towards one.

Learners Retain About:

  • 90% of what they learn when they teach someone else/they use immediately.
  • 75% of what they learn when they practice what they learned.
  • 50% of what they learn when engaged in a group discussion.
  • 30% of what they learn when they see a demonstration.
  • 20% of what they learn from audio-visual.
  • 10% of what they learn when they’ve learned from reading.
  • 5% of what they learn when they’ve learned from lecture.

We learn and become adept through repetition. Repetition is the mother of skill.

Stay awake.

With Love,

Broderick
